Student Success Statement 2/13/15

"Associate yourself with men of good quality if you esteem your own reputation; for 'tis better to be alone than in bad company.''

Student Reflection : My father told me many  times "tell me who are around and ill tell you who your are". Influence is a big factor in regard to what makes a person who they are. If you surround yourself with people who always choose the right and strive for success you will end up always choosing the right and becoming a successful person. If you choose to always be with friends who do drugs and do bad things then you will eventually be doing those things too.

Student Success Statement

Why is a half-truth a whole lie?
“Right is right only when entire”
-Victor Hugo

Reflection: There is no such thing as a half-truth the same as there is no half guilty.  You may have been honest about something but as a whole a half truth is always a lie. You only do right when you tell the complete truth. We may tell ourselves that we are half right or told a half-truth but at the end of the day its either you did right or wrong there is no in-between.

“In life as in football, you won’t go far unless you know where the goalposts are”
Arnold H. Glasgow

Reflection: In football the goal is the end zone and second the goal is to kick the football through the goalpost.  Now if there was no set end zone, what would the players accomplish? If you don’t set any goals in life, how will you know if you’re on the right path? Football players set small goals first like first downs. As they continue getting them they know they are on the right track and are gaining ground getting closer to the main goal.  If you fail to set goals you won’t accomplish thing as you could be or you might not accomplish anything.

basket ball invention

1.       Dr. James Naismith invented the first basketball game.
2.       He invented it in Springfield Massachusetts.
3.       The game was invented in 1891.
4.        The game was invented using two peach baskets and a soccer ball.
5.       The game was invented because young men who’s football season ended needed a more exciting game to play to keep in shape
6.       There  were only thirteen rules of “basketball”.
The ball may be thrown in any direction with one or both hands.
The ball may be batted in any direction with one or both hands.
A player cannot run with the ball, the player must throw it from the spot on which he catches it, allowance to be made for a man who catches the ball when running at good speed.
The ball must be held in or between the hands, the arms or body must not be used for holding it.
No shouldering, holding, pushing, tripping or striking in any way the person of an opponent shall be allowed. The first infringement of this rule by any person shall count as a foul, the second shall disqualify him until the next goal is made, or if there was evident intent to injure the person, for the whole of the game, no substitute.
A foul is striking the ball with the fist, violation of rules 3 and 4, and such as described in rule 5.
If either side makes three consecutive fouls it shall count a goal for opponents.
A goal shall be made when the ball is thrown or batted from grounds into the basket and stays there If the ball rests on the edge and the opponent moves the basket it shall count as a goal.
When the ball goes out of bounds it shall be thrown into the field and played by the person first touching it. In case of a dispute, the umpire shall throw it straight into the field. The "thrower-in" is allowed five seconds. If he holds it longer it shall go to the opponent. If any side persists in delaying the game, the umpire shall call a foul on them.
The umpire shall be the judge of the men and shall note the fouls, and notify the referee when three consecutive fouls have been made.
The referee shall be the judge of the ball and shall decide when the ball is in play, in-bounds, and to which side it belongs, and shall keep the time. He shall decide when a goal has been made, and keep account of the goals with any other duties that are usually performed by a referee.
The time shall be fifteen-minute halves, with five minutes rest between.
The side making the most goals in that time shall be declared the winner. In the case of a draw, the game may, by agreement of the captains, be continued until another goal is made.

9.    There is many more rules and now there is a variety of types of shots.

Tanna and Christian

Tanna and Christian

Tonna and Christian have a remarkable story that reveals compassion. Tonna is an elderly woman who was mugged while visiting her deceased husband. She was robbed for  700 dollars, who at the time was unidentified. Luckily the police were able to apprehend the criminal. A 15 year old boy by the name of Christian was the son of the reckless criminal who had committed the crime against Tonna. Shortly after finding out that his dad had committed such a horrible act he decided to make a courageous decision. He met up with Tonna at a church parking lot and apologized to Tonna for his father’s actions. After apologizing to her he gave her 250 dollars which he had received from his father to go on a band trip. Tonna accepted the apology and the money only to fund his band trip with her own money. I can relate to this because Christian showed a lot of character traits that my teacher encourages us to use.

Reflection: The only way you can truly enjoy life and add a more valuable meaning to living is by doing good. You cannot enjoy life if you are doing wrong things and choosing what’s wrong.
